MODEL
PTG-1 DESCRIPTION
This low
cost solenoid start gate activator is specifically designed
to start your plywood track races, using our Light
Tree. When the light gets to green, the solenoid pulls the
custom gate latch. It adds a touch of drama to see the race
start with nobody near the gate.
The activator
mounts to the track with a pair of screws. There is usually
no modification needed to the track itself. The critical linkage
between the solenoid and the latch are preassembled on a precision
substrate. The PTG-1 comes with a hefty low-voltage power supply.

MOUNTING THE
PTG-1
Locate
strike plate on downhill edge of your peg bar, mark and drill
pilot holes.

Mount
strike plate with screws provided. The strike plate edge with
diagonal notch is away from track bottom
|
Locate
and mount substrate using two screws provided.
|
The latch
tip engages the strike plate diagonal notch.
|
Install
spring or rubberbands between the downhill edge of the peg
bar and a point uphill from the pegs. Now, the gate "wants
to open" and is held closed by the latch.

If
your vertical support does not allow enough room to mount
the latch, such as this Piantedosi Classic wood track, simply
move the support a few inches down hill.

WANT THE START
GATE REMOTE ACTIVATOR, BUT NOT THE LIGHT TREE?
The PTG-1 can
be activated by two other methods:
The PTG-1
can be activated by a switch at the end of a cable. The switch
is wired between the tip and ring of a standard 3.5mm stereo
plug. If you don't want to do it yourself, we offer this hand-held
push button starting cable. $19

GPI
It can
also be activated by a mouse click when using GrandPrix Race
Manager software, v. 7.0 or later. Simply
insert the GPI in your serial communication cable, and plug
the control cable into the PTG-1. The GPI also monitors your
Com circuts (both directions) for test purposes.
